Family garden in České Budějovice, South Bohemia

The garden for a small bungalow in the suburbs of České Budějovice presented a unique challenge due to the limited size of the plot and the existing hard surfaces of the driveway and patios. The client's brief included parking for two vehicles, a relaxation area by the swimming pool with an accessible technology box, an outdoor dining area with sun protection, and a shed for tools and bikes. Our task was to transform these spaces into a functional, aesthetically pleasing garden that would make the most of the limited space.

To create a formal and welcoming entrance to the house, we divided the driveway and parking area from the pedestrian path, framing it with hedging. The front garden, initially underused, is now a small private space with direct access to the kitchen, perfect for a morning coffee patio or a retreat from the sun on hot days. The back garden, while seemingly cramped with multiple functions, offers a generous space for dining under a pergola with shading, a relaxation deck by the swim spa pool, and a wooden tool shed with a facade designed for attractive climbing plants. Throughout the garden, we selected plants that are both visually appealing and soften the hard textures of the paving and garden structures, creating a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. Despite its compact size, this garden is a perfect blend of functionality and beauty, offering a lovely space to relax or enjoy the view from the window.
